Check these settings on every iPad that runs Takedown. Each takes a few seconds and heads off the most common problems on Event day.
1. iPadOS 18.5 or later, updated automatically
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- If an update is available, tap Download and Install.
- Tap Automatic Updates and turn on Automatically Install.
See Keeping Takedown and Your iPad Up to Date.
2. Takedown updated automatically
Open Settings > Apps > App Store and turn on App Updates.
3. Full Screen Apps
Takedown needs to run full screen. On iPadOS 26 or later:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Multitasking & Gestures.
- Select Full Screen Apps.
4. Camera, Microphone and Photos (for video)
Open Settings > Apps > Takedown and check:
- Camera is on.
- Microphone is on (turn it off only to record without sound).
- Photos is set to Full Access. Takedown saves each match video to Photos and can't record with Limited Access.
Takedown asks for these the first time you record. See Recording Match Video.
5. Bluetooth (for a Bluetooth speaker or scale)
Open Settings > Bluetooth and turn it on. See Setting Up the Scoreboard and Using a Befour Wireless Scale.
6. Date and time set automatically
Open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. A wrong clock can break the YouTube sign-in.
7. Room for video
Open Settings > General > iPad Storage to see how much space is free. A season of video can take 50 GB or more. See Managing iPad Storage for Video.
8. Internet
Takedown scores without internet, but your iPads only sync, and Takedown LIVE only updates, when they're online. Connect to Wi-Fi after each Event. See Scoring Without Internet at the Venue and My iPads Aren't Showing the Same Data.
School-managed iPads
If your school manages the iPad, some of these settings may be locked. Ask your school's IT department to allow:
- Takedown updates from the App Store
- Camera, Microphone and Photos (Full Access) for Takedown
- Bluetooth
- Signing in to Google, if you upload video to YouTube
