A competition level tags each Event as Varsity, JV, Freshman, Middle School, Youth or Other. It's how one Season can hold every level a program wrestles and still report on each one separately. College accounts don't use competition levels; there's no need for them, and the rows described here don't appear.
Turning levels on for a Season
Tap My Team > Seasons, the Season, Edit, and check the levels you'll wrestle this Season under Competition Levels. Check only what you need: with one level checked, every new Event gets it automatically and the question never comes up; with two or more, each Event asks for its level.
Leave all of them unchecked and Events have no level at all. That's fine for a program that keeps each level in its own Season, for example "2026-27 Varsity" and "2026-27 JV".
Setting an Event's level
In the Event (Schedule > Event > Edit), tap Competition Level and choose. The choice is limited to the levels checked on the Season. It's required: with levels turned on, an Event can't be saved without one. The duals inside a dual meet tournament take the tournament's level. A tournament with USA Wrestling divisions has no level, because its wrestlers are grouped by age instead.
Copying a schedule from another Season copies each Event's level.
Where levels show up
- Reports: Filter > Competition Levels narrows any report to the levels you pick; with none picked, every level counts. The Wrestler Profile report keeps two records per Season, Varsity and JV/Other, so a wrestler's varsity record is never diluted by JV matches. The Schedule report has a Competition Level column.
- Takedown LIVE: the level is sent with every match.
- The shared calendar: a dual meet's entry is titled with the opponent and the level.
- Pairings: Copy Lineup From Event offers only dual meets at the same level with the same weight classes.
One Season or several?
Both work. One Season with levels keeps one Roster, one Opponent Teams list and one schedule, and a wrestler who moves between varsity and JV during the year stays in one place; use report filters to separate the levels. Separate Seasons suit programs with different coaches, rosters or weight-class sets per level. See Seasons.
Not the same thing
When you subscribe to a roster, the online database also asks for a level: High School, Middle School, college men's or women's, or USA Wrestling. That's the level the roster is filed under in the database, not the competition level of an Event.
