Takedown is built for gyms with bad Wi-Fi. Once an iPad is set up, you can score an entire tournament with no internet connection at all.
What works offline
- Scoring matches
- Recording video
- Rosters, schedules and weigh-ins you've already entered
- Reports
- The scoreboard on an Apple TV or external display
What needs internet
- Signing in on an iPad for the first time, and downloading your data
- Syncing between iPads
- Takedown LIVE updates for fans and parents
- Uploading video to YouTube and sharing video or reports
- Adding opponent teams and wrestlers from the roster database
- Starting or renewing a subscription
Before you leave for the venue
- Sign in and open Takedown on every iPad you're bringing, on a good connection, so each one has the latest data.
- Add the event, the opponent teams and their wrestlers while you still have internet. The roster database isn't available offline.
- Update Takedown and iOS.
Getting online at the venue
- Ask for the Wi-Fi password. The host coach, tournament director or head table usually has it. On a school network, ask whether there's a guest network.
- Use a phone's personal hotspot. This is the most reliable option in most gyms. Apple's steps: Share your internet connection from your iPhone. Takedown uses very little data for scoring and Takedown LIVE; video uploads are the exception.
- Use a cellular iPad. An iPad with its own cellular plan never depends on the venue.
- Step outside the gym. Wi-Fi and cellular are often better in the hallway or lobby. A minute there is enough to sync.
After the event
Connect each iPad to the internet and open Takedown for a minute. Matches scored offline sync to your other iPads and appear on Takedown LIVE. Upload video when you're on fast Wi-Fi.
