Importing Parent and Guardian Contacts from a File

If you already have parent and guardian contact information in a spreadsheet, import it instead of typing it in. Takedown matches each row to a wrestler on your roster, creates the contact with the Parent/Guardian role, and links it to the wrestler.

Preparing the file

Save the spreadsheet as a CSV file (Excel and Google Sheets both do this with File > Save As or Download). The first row holds the column headers, spelled exactly as shown:

  • One row per parent. A wrestler with two parents gets two rows.
  • The wrestler's name must match the roster entry; capitalization doesn't matter.
  • Column order doesn't matter. No blank rows.

Importing

  1. Get the CSV file onto the iPad: email it to yourself, AirDrop it, or save it in Files.
  2. Open the file (tap the attachment in Mail, or the file in Files), tap the share icon, and tap Takedown.
  3. Takedown opens and lists the parents and guardians it found, each with their wrestler. Tap Import.
  4. A summary shows how many contacts were added or updated, how many wrestlers were linked, and any rows that were skipped.

What happens to each row

  • A parent who's already in Contacts with the same name and email is updated with the phone number from the file and linked to the wrestler; nothing is duplicated.
  • Otherwise a new contact is created with the Parent/Guardian role.
  • Rows are skipped when the wrestler isn't on your roster, a name is missing, or the email or phone isn't valid. The summary names each skipped row so you can fix the file and import again; rows already imported are simply updated.

Afterward, parents appear under Parents/Guardians on each wrestler in My Team > Roster and in the Contacts list, and are included when you email the Parent/Guardian group. See Contacts, Team Roles and Group Email.
