If your team isn't in the online database, or you keep wrestler details in a spreadsheet, import them from a CSV file. Each row is one wrestler; the first row names the columns.
The file
Save the spreadsheet as CSV (Excel and Google Sheets both do this with File > Save As or Download). Column headers must be spelled exactly as shown; order doesn't matter, and only the name columns are required.
| Header | Meaning | Format | Opponent Team? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Wrestler's last name | Text | Yes |
| First Name | Wrestler's first name | Text | Yes |
| Name | Instead of the two name columns: "Last, First" | Text with a comma | Yes |
| Gr. | Grade | pre-K, K, 1 to 13 | No |
| Yr. | College year | Fr., So., Jr., Sr., RS Fr., RS So., RS Jr., RS Sr., Redshirt, n/a | No |
| Birthdate | Birthdate | m/d/yyyy, for example 1/23/2010 | No |
| Phone | Phone number | Any format | No |
| Email address | A valid address | No | |
| Cert. Date | Weight certification date | m/d/yyyy; requires Cert. Wt. | No |
| Cert. Wt. | Weight on the certification date | Number, for example 123.7; requires Cert. Date | No |
| MWC | Minimum weight class | Whole number, for example 125 | Yes |
| MWW | Minimum wrestling weight | Number, for example 123.7 | No |
- No blank rows.
- A certified weight of zero isn't accepted; enter the weight or leave both certification columns blank for that wrestler.
- A header with a different spelling stops the import; Takedown names the column and offers the format guide.
Examples:
Last Name, First Name Smith, John Sanderson, Cael
Last Name, First Name, Gr., Cert. Date, Cert. Wt., MWW, MWC Smith, John, 11, 11/1/2026, 140, 132, 133 Sanderson, Cael, 12, 11/1/2026, 195, 182, 184
Importing
- Get the file onto the iPad: email it to yourself, AirDrop it, or save it in Files.
- Open it (tap the attachment in Mail, or the file in Files), tap the share icon, then Takedown.
- Takedown opens and lists the wrestlers it found. Pick the Season and the Team: your team for your Roster, or an Opponent Team. Tap Import.
A wrestler already on the team with the same name is updated rather than duplicated, so you can import the same file again after adding columns. Parent and guardian contacts have their own file; see Importing Parent and Guardian Contacts from a File.
Adding details to a Roster you already have
To add phone numbers, emails or birthdates to an existing Roster without typing them on the iPad, start from Takedown's own export:
- In Reports, choose Roster, filter to the Season, and under Options include the columns you want to fill in.
- Tap Sharing > CSV and email the file to yourself.
- Fill in the columns in a spreadsheet, save as CSV, and import it as above into the same Season and team.
The same export is how you get your Roster into a spreadsheet for any other purpose; see Roster Report.
